MARTIN REYES Beyond the Arc

For their 2nd game in the 2nd round of eliminations, UP lost the game against DLSU; the game ended with 61-81 in favor of the Archers. Well, I didn’t expect too much from the Maroons, we don’t have to elaborate on the teams’ differences. But as the 1st half ended last Sunday with 30-34, only a four point lead for DLSU, I had hope that the game will end with only a five point lead at the most, if UP will not win. But as most of the viewers have predicted, the game wrapped up with 20 points lead.

But even if UP lost, I had observed that they played a very good one. I want to acknowledge Martin Reyes’ performance; he really did a great, great job. He has given 21 points on that game (surpassing the 19 points given by Maierhoffer, the highest scorer for DLSU). Martin’s 21 points: composed of FIVE 3pt shots and three 2pt shots. He deserves recognition for that effort. I almost lost my voice and wounded my throat, screaming and cheering for every 3pt shots that Martin did. Even if they didn’t win, the shots that Martin did on that UP-DLSU Round 2 game, at least, left an impact that UP will never say die. His contribution on that game is exceptional. Other teams should never underestimate the Fighting Maroons, because they will keep on fighting no matter what.

Since UP lost, news and write-ups about the game is just focused on the efforts given by DLSU. As a UAAP basketball viewer (and a UP alumni), I just really want to give credits to the hard work that players like Martin Reyes deserves. He really deserves an appreciation!

To all the UP Fighting Maroons, keep on believing on yourselves, you can make a difference! Just keep on fighting… UP FIGHT!

UP Fighting Maroons' 2nd win :)

I wasn’t able to watch the game between UP and AdU last Saturday, and I really missed a lot. Although my sister kept on updating me through text, it’s really still different if I had seen the game with my own eyes. A win by 8 points is such a good game for them compared to their other 1st round games on which they ended up losing by double digits. I was so static, excited and nervous everytime my CP would beep, my sister had supplied me with the scores… and when 1st quarter ended with 20 all, I was a bit confident that they can win the game but at the same time nervous that AdU will gonna pull off considering that they had win over UE. (The truth is when AdU won over UE and almost won over UST, I lost my confidence on them a bit, I thought that they will really have a hard time beating them, but judging from the quarter scores, both teams really had a great fight.) And as 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarter came, I became more and more nervous especially because my sister fed me with updates as minutes, and seconds pass.. until she texted me the final score, 76-68. Whew!!! I finally have a normal heartbeat after a few minutes… YUPEE!!! They won, they won!!! I am really, really happy… I knew it, they’ll gonna have a better season this year…

Another thing that made me so happy about the game is I read from archive articles of the dailies, that my favorite player, Martin Reyes opened the 4th quarter with a back-to-back 3 point shots... he’s really simply the best. Too bad, I wasn’t able to see those shots, and I wasn’t able to shout on top of my lungs for those 3 point shots… He never fails to amaze me with his 3 point shots, even with their other games, on which they lost, he always have his 3 point shots… I really admire him… GO #14 MARTIN REYES!!!! Your #1 supporter is just here to cheer for you!

No matter what happens, I will give my 101% confidence on the UP Men’s Basketball Team! For now, this is what I can only contribute for the welfare of the UAAP fight of my much-loved university. UP FIGHT! No matter what, UP is the only university that have been a part of me... and I am proud to be called an ISKA.

UP FIGHT!!!
